Frequently asked questions

Licensing, trials, and transfers first, then questions specific to each driver.

General

How does licensing work?
Each driver is licensed, not sold: a non-exclusive license to install and use that driver on one Crestron Home processor, regardless of how many devices are installed. Licenses are sold separately per driver — there's no site-wide or multi-driver bundle. No subscription; one processor transfer is included with every license.
Can I try a driver before I buy it?
Yes. Every SynDrivers driver runs in trial mode when no license key is installed — full features, time-limited per driver load. Sideload it and evaluate it on your own Crestron Home processor; license the processor once it's earned its place on the job.
I'm moving a license to a new processor, or I typed the wrong MAC address at checkout — what do I do?
Every license includes one free self-serve transfer to a new Crestron Home processor from the license portal; a second transfer requires a new license. A MAC address typo entered at checkout is corrected free of charge within roughly 72 hours of purchase. Neither of these is a refund — file a License issue ticket and we'll sort it out.
What's the refund policy?
Licenses are delivered digitally and minted to a specific Crestron Home processor at the time of purchase. Once a license is minted, all sales are final, except where consumer law requires otherwise — trial mode is there precisely so you can confirm a driver works for the job before that happens. Full details are in Refunds & Trials.
Are the drivers Crestron-certified?
Crestron certification is planned; every driver currently ships as a pre-certification build. Each product page's changelog notes its certification status alongside the current build.
What does support cover?
We answer within one business day, US business hours. Support covers configuration and setup; work beyond that is available as paid hours.
UniFi Protect Viewport
Do I need a UniFi cloud account for this to work?
No. Both parts authenticate with a local API key against your own Protect console over the local network, so no UniFi cloud account is required.
Is the Camera Grid extension a separate purchase?
No. Buying UniFi Protect Viewport puts both this driver's license key and the Camera Grid extension's license key in the cart. Each key licenses its own part, per Crestron Home processor, so they still license separately once installed.
Do I need Camera Grid to use Viewport switching at all?
No. The Viewport driver alone switches liveviews from remotes, keypads, and the touch panel's Additional Functions list. Camera Grid adds a named, tappable grid on top of that same switching, but it requires the Viewport driver already installed and paired.
How is this different from the free Protect Streams Utility?
The free utility is a one-time setup tool: it scans your Protect instance and hands you a table of stream and snapshot URLs to paste into Crestron Home's native camera pages. UniFi Protect Viewport is the ongoing Crestron Home integration, handling Viewport liveview switching, the touch panel camera grid, and stream-token upkeep, and it uses the utility as its setup companion.
Does it use the same login as the Protect mobile or web app?
No. Both parts authenticate only with a local API key issued from the Protect console's own settings, not the cookie-based session the app uses.
Colorbeam GATEway
Can the Colorbeam app and Crestron Home both stay connected?
Yes. The gateway supports concurrent clients, so the Colorbeam app, another controller, and Crestron Home can all be connected at the same time.
What happens when the gateway loses power or the LAN drops?
The driver reconnects on its own once the gateway is back, re-reads the load store, and does not create duplicate entities.
Does it poll the gateway?
No. State arrives on the gateway's own push events. A 30-second drift-repair read is the only scheduled traffic.
Do I configure each load by hand?
No. Controls are typed automatically from each load's channel mask, so there are no per-load configuration screens.
Qolsys IQ Panel
Is this available yet?
Not yet. It's early in development against the Qolsys IQ Panel's local control interface, and this listing tracks progress toward a first release.
Which panel generations are supported?
Coverage is still being finalized. The plan is one purchase that covers the IQ Panel line, where you load the build that matches your panel; some older generations may ship as a separate build.
Does it support multiple partitions?
Multi-partition support is part of the design, for sites where the panel is split into more than one armed area.
Shield
Why not just use the driver I already have?
Most existing options relay through a companion app installed on the Shield plus a separate licensing process, two extra moving parts to manage. This driver talks directly to the Shield's native remote protocol instead.
Does it support launching apps by name?
v1 focuses on rock-solid remote control: navigation, transport, power, and volume, matching the factory remote exactly. App launching is on the roadmap for a future update.
What happens if my network drops for a moment?
The driver reconnects automatically the next time it needs to send a command, with no manual re-pairing and no driver reload required.
Shelly
What's wrong with the RGBW handling in other Shelly drivers?
A common mistake maps the white channel onto Crestron's color-temperature control, which produces wrong-looking whites and confusing behavior for homeowners. This driver maps it as a true white channel.
Do I need a hub, bridge, or broker?
No. Control and feedback both run directly over the local network between the processor and the Shelly device, with no MQTT broker and no cloud relay.
Which Shelly device types are supported?
Relays and switches, dimmers, covers/shades, and RGBW controllers at launch, with coverage expanding as new Shelly component types are added.
Protect Streams Utility
Does this need a Crestron system to be useful?
No. It outputs standard RTSPS and snapshot URLs, which drop into any control system's native camera page. Crestron Home is the primary use case, but it's not required.
Does my API key ever leave my machine?
No. The utility talks directly from your machine to your Protect console over your local network, and nothing is sent to SynDrivers. By default the key is held in memory for the session only. If you choose to save a site, the key is stored on that PC encrypted with Windows Data Protection (DPAPI), readable only by your Windows account, and you can delete it at any time.
Do streams and snapshots use the same credentials?
No, and that's the main thing to know. Stream URLs come from your local API key. Optional camera details (IP, model, resolution) come from a local UniFi login. Working snapshot URLs need each camera's recovery password, which you use to turn on anonymous snapshot. The utility walks you through each.
Is there a paid version?
The utility itself is free. It's also the setup companion for the paid UniFi Protect driver suite, once that ships.
